The Shattered Bond by Miranda L. is the second instalment of the Celestial Court series (#1 Beneath the Silent Stars, #2 The Shattered Bond). The novel follows the story of Astraia Solenne as she fights for her crown and survival. Itâs a novel packed with magical powers, love, slow burn, betrayals and mental health representations.
If you havenât read Beneath the Silent Stars, I would start there. The book is for 13 year olds and above, this being said, please read the trigger warnings before you read the novel.
Without giving too much away, Astraia has to navigate her betrayal and sorrow behind locked bars. Without her Starbone powers she is held defenceless locked away in a castle that isnât herâs anymore as her uncle schemes behind the stolen crown. Astraia and her friend eventually gets saved by a rebellion, will she join or venture forth on her own? The kingdom needs her saving, the Starborne need her saving, but amidst all that, she is breaking down as shadows fill her head, waiting to take control and cause havoc.
I would recommend this series for you if youâre interested in reading about:
Speed: Very Slow
Spice: None
Rating: 3.6 âď¸ (My personal rating)
The Shattered Bond is a lovely read with good characterisation and plot.
The side characters in the novel felt well developed, each with distinct personality and quirks. However, I do think the main characterâs (Astraia) personality could have undergone greater development, I did not find her relatable, likeable or dislikable. When it comes to Astraia, the author focused a lot on her thoughts, hence the mental health aspect of this novel. Iâd have liked to see the thoughts be more fleshed out and impactful on her actions and overall plot, it felt very disconnected to everything else in the novel.
